Brian M. McNiell, CFA – Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director – Investments
McNiell has over 20 years of investing and operational experience in Oil, Gas, Solar, Timber, Energy Infrastructure and Industrial sectors. McNiell works closely with both public and private natural resource companies to help them achieve their strategic objectives. McNiell served as an employee of the Southern Ute Growth Fund and was instrumental in executing the Southern Ute Growth Plan working closely with Council and the enterprises to develop the proper holding company structure, core strategy and execution of the plan. McNiell then worked with the Northern Ute Indian Tribe to organize, form, develop and execute the Ute Energy Company. This start-up entity was valued at over $500 million within 4 years and was eventually sold by the Tribe for approximately $800 million. McNiell has held senior management positions at Morgan Keegan and Company, Inc (SVP), Pritchard Capital (SVP) and Wunderlich Securities (Managing Director) in their natural resources divisions. McNiell is the current chairman SR Energy Partners, a private equity and turnaround management firm with offices in Denver, Houston and Memphis.
Paul D. Vuljanic – Executive Vice President, Managing Director – Minerals
Mr. Vuljanic has over 16 years in the energy sector including coal, oil, natural gas and timber management. Paul Vuljanic held various engineering and operations management positions at surface and underground mining operations within Murray Energy Corporation, PVR Partners, L.P. & recently served as Director of Operations within the Natural Resource Division of Regency Energy Partners, L.P. a publicly traded MLP now owned by Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. (NYSE: ETP). Vuljanic has worked closely with each company’s business development divisions in reviewing various energy, mineral and royalty acquisitions within the United States. Paul Vuljanic received a BS in engineering from Penn State University.
J. Carlo Limchuatuan, CPA – Vice President – Corporate Finance
Carlo Limchuatuan has over 10 years of experience in mergers & acquisitions and investment banking primarily in the upstream, midstream, oilfield service, other energy-related industry sectors and a variety of other industries. He is responsible for sourcing companies looking to engage in capital raising, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Carlo currently serves as a Managing Director for Vaughn Capital, LLC, a Denver, Colorado-based family office leading its merchant banking practice. From 2008 to 2013, Carlo held positions of Senior Vice President with Wunderlich Securities, Inc., Vice President with Pritchard Capital Partners, LLC, and Associate with Morgan Keegan & Co., Inc.’s energy investment banking practices. Prior to that, he spent time in the International Acquisitions & Dispositions group at Marathon Oil Company. Carlo began his career in M&A at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in their Transaction Services Practice advising numerous companies across a broad range of industries on transactions. In addition, he spent almost 10 years in public accounting, for local and international firms, performing tax, assurance, advisory and consulting services. Carlo graduated with Honors from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant (Texas).
Gregg R. Lund, MBA – Managing Director – Real Estate
Mr. Lund has over 17 years of experience working with various private equity funds, which focused on commercial real estate and lending investments. Gregg was responsible for new investments, legal structuring, due diligence, and the placement of debt. In addition, Gregg is Managing Director for Sheldrake Advisors, LLC which specializes in acquisitions, development, financing and business advisory services. Gregg received his BSME from Yale, and his Masters in Business from the University of Florida, while concentrating in Finance.
Neil M. Kok – President
Mr. Kok has over 40 years of experience in coal, oil and gas acquisition and administration, thirteen of which were with Murray Energy Corporation. Prior to that, he held senior land positions with Aquitaine PA, Canterra Coal, Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal and various consulting firms. Additionally, Kok is the owner and President of Kok Land Management Services, Inc. which he established in 1996 and has represented clients in PA, OH, IL, KY, WV and MD.
Chris Van Bever, Esq., P.E. – General Counsel
Mr. Bever, has over 30 years of experience in engineering and legal experience. Chris has successfully represented clients in connection with two separate Rule 144A secured notes offerings raising over $1 billion as well as financing transactions, equipment leases, term loans, revolving credit facilities, and sale-leasebacks. He is also member of the Kentucky Bar Association, Kentucky Coal Association, Society of Petroleum Engineers, and the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers.
Thomas W. Cate, PG – Vice President – Geology
Mr. Cate has over 30 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry. He has worked for various independent producers as a geologist, manager, officer and consultant in the Appalachian Basin, Illinois Basin and Cincinnati Arch areas. He has been responsible for all phases of prospect generation, land acquisition, drilling, completion and production operations. Since the mid-1990s, Mr. Cate has discovered two new fields and multiple field extensions and reservoirs. He was also responsible for developing the first coal-bed methane production in the state of Kentucky.
Michelle S. Brashears, MBA, CPA, CFE – Director of Compliance
Mrs. Brashears has over 12 years of experience in the energy sector. Michelle has served businesses in various industries since 1996. She has directed all aspects of audit (including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, royalty audits, contract audits, internal audit, and external audit) and financial reporting at a publicly traded entity. Michelle began her career in public accounting where she gained expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, fraud prevention and detection, and internal controls.
Cameron D. Brown – Director of Business Development
Mr. Brown has over 7 years of mining and operations experience. Cameron spent four years on-site as a mining engineer for BHP Billiton at Mt. Arthur Coal Mine in rural New South Wales, Australia. Cameron performed various mine planning and management roles, including Shift Coordinator: leading a team of 33 operators, and Short-term Planning Superintendent.
